1864 Vermont Civil War Death Certificate Tintype Photo
This listing is for an antique hand colored Civil War death certificate and tintype. The certificate reads "A tribute to the memory of the fallen brave Harmon Whitton Co. E. 10th Reg. Vt. Vol. Died June 6 1864. In Columbian Hosp. Wash. D.C. Age 34 Yrs." In the bottom left hand corner is "J.H. Bufford's Lith. Boston." In the bottom right is "W.F. White Des." Printed at the very bottom, we find the following: "Entered according to Act of Congress 1864 W.F. White, in the Clerks Office of the District Court of Massachusetts." According to Vermontcivilwar.org, Harmon Whitton was a member of the 10th Vermont Infantry. The viewable portion of the certificate measures approximately 11.5" inches by 16" inches. The viewable portion of the tintype is about 2" inches by 3" inches. The seller informed us that the frame was original and it measures about 16.75" inches wide by 21.25" inches high. The back is a single wooden plank held on with nails. The certificate is in very good condition with moderate yellowing and some light spots in the bottom corners. The gold inner trim of the frame has moderate pitting, and the frame itself has minor scuffs. This listing has no reserve price so don't miss your chance to win!
