Vintage Antique Japanese Tansu Chest On Chest NR
This listing is for a vintage antique Asian chest set. Based on our research, we believe these chests may be of the variety known as "chobadansu." The set includes two chests that can be stacked or placed in different locations. When stacked, the set measures approximately 46.25" inches wide, 17.5" inches deep, and 38.25" inches high. The seller lived in Japan between 1948 and 1955 and these chests are some of the items she picked up during her stay. Each chest has four drawers and some of them are the same size. One of the drawers is locked and the seller didn't have the key so we can't say if the drawer is empty or it has something inside. The chests are in very good condition overall with minor scuffs and signs of wear. This listing has no reserve price so don't miss your chance to win!

From shogunsgallery.com:
"Made up of a combination of drawers and sliding doors, tansu were designed to accomadate a variety of different uses. For example, and ishodansu stored clothing, a chobadansu stored documents while a chadansu stored implements for tea ceremony and a kaidansu was used as stairsteps to an upper level and storage. While the size and positioning of the doors and drawers vary among these different tansu, they hold in common clean lines and asymmetry. With a focus on utility, many of these chests are stackable and most have metal side handles so they can be easily moved."
