Vintage 1957 MG MGA 1500 Roadster Coupe Convertible

This listing is for a vintage 1957 MG MGA 1500 Roadster. It has undergone a ground up restoration of the body, which is mostly all original. The only new body parts are the rocker panels and front balance. There are lots of new parts including the following: aluminum head assembly ($1300), leather seat and trim kit ($770), 4 60-spoke 15x4.5 wheels + Cooper Sportmaster P165R15 tires ($800), top frame ($220), front & rear bumpers, fuel pump, grill assembly, radiator duct panel, battery bracket kit, wiring harness ($220), exhaust system, and lots of other smaller parts. There is a folder full of receipts for the work that's been done and the parts that were bought. The engine needs a crankshaft. It has not been rebuilt, and was running well when purchased in 2003 and the restoration was started. It is not the original speedometer, and the engine has an estimated 84K miles. The seat and trim kit, top frame, carpet kit, fuel pump will be shipped from Vermont to the winning bidder. This car is available for pick up only in Swisher, Iowa. Please call or email with any questions.

From the Sports Car Market website:

A successful outing for three EX182 pre-production prototypes at the Le Mans 24 Hours race in 1955 provided perfect pre-launch publicity for MG’s new sports car. Conceived as a replacement for the traditional T-Series MGs and launched in 1955, the MGA combined a rigid chassis with the Austin-designed, 1489-cc engine that had first appeared in the ZA Magnette. With over 100,000 produced, the MGA was perhaps the most popular sports car of its time. Its curving lines, with long front fenders and short rear fenders, echoed the Jaguar XK 120. The overhead-valve B Series unit produced 68 bhp (later 72 bhp) at 5,500 rpm on twin SU carburetors. Running gear was based on that of the TF, with independent coil spring/wishbone front suspension and a leaf-sprung live rear axle. Clad in a stylish aerodynamic body and capable of topping 95 miles per hour, the MGA proved an instant hit, selling 13,000 units in its first full year of production.
