This listing is for a baseball that was hand signed by the great Hall Of Fame player Eddie Mathews. It is a Rawlings Official National League Ball, and is nicely signed in the sweet spot with a blue ballpoint pen. The ball itself shows some yellowing from age. Eddie Mathews was first signed by the Boston Braves in 1949, and went on to be one of the greatest third basemen to ever play the game. For nine straight seasons he hit at least 30 home runs, including leading the National League twice (1953, 1959). In 1954 Mathews was chosen for the cover of the first-ever issue of Sports Illustrated magazine. Hall of Famer Ty Cobb said of Mathews: "I've only known three or four perfect swings in my time. This lad has one of them." He was part of a Milwaukee Braves home run power duo with Hank Aaron for many years, and was the manager of the team when Aaron hit his 715th home run. In 1978 Eddie Mathews was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame and today still ranks second all-time among third basemen in home runs, RBI, slugging percentage and total bases.
