This listing is for an original oil painting by the renowned French artist Wilfrid Constant Beauquesne (~1840-1913). The work was purchased at an auction in Vermont in the 1960s. It appears to depict a Franco-Prussian war scene with a mother pleading to a soldier while another soldier packs valuables into a sleeping bag. The painting measures about 31 3/4" inches wide by 25 1/2" inches high and has Beauquesne's name in the lower left hand corner. It's in fair overall condition with some scuffs and tears and a few repairs, and would benefit from professional restoration in order to preserve this lovely painting.
