Norwegian Norway Rosemaling Rosemaled Lot Patterns Book

This listing is for a collection of vintage materials related to the art of Norwegian rosemaling. The lot includes hundreds of patterns and designs as well as an instructional book. Many of the designs are from the prominent rosemaling artist Pat Virch from Marquette, Michigan. The materials are in good overall condition with some wear and signs of use. [These items belonged to] Lovila Schaefer, wife of a Lutheran minister in Neenah, Wisconsin. She taught rosemaling and decorative arts. Included in this collection is a folio of "Traditional Norwegian Rosemaling" designs by Pat Virch, published in the late 1970s by Nordic Publishers. Another ringbinder contains 11 published booklets by prominent rosemalers in the US and Norway. Two are by Pat Virch. It also includes designs and actual examples of brush strokes, probably used for instruction purposes, as well as class notes. This material dates to the mid 1970s. A ringbinder containing dozens of postcard-sized, full-color designs is also available. It includes patterns that can be traced onto plates, etc. and more sample brush strokes. Finally, there is a book called "Norwegian Rosemaling- Decorative Painting on Wood" by Margaret Miller and Sigmund Aarseth, published by Charles Scribners and Sons, 1974. 200 pages, with nine full-color design postcards slipped between the pages.
