Carlo Biscaretti di Ruffia Anisetta Evangelista Poster
This listing is for a very rare original poster by the artist Carlo Biscaretti di Ruffia (1879-1959). It was created to advertise Anisetta Evangelista (anisette-flavored liqueur) and shows a monkey imbibing a bottle of the sweet elixir. The poster reads "Anisetta Evangelista Liquore da Dessert Ditta L. Evangelisti Santelpidio (Marche) (Italia)." It was created in 1925 and measures about 39.25" inches wide by 55.25" inches long. The poster has been mounted on linen and is in very good overall condition with some scuffs, creases from folding, and a few tears at the top. One of these posters in excellent condition sold for over $1800 in 2005 (see Posters Excel Sale XL May 1, 2005 and Poster Prices VII 2005). This listing has no reserve price so don't miss your chance to win!

"What can you say about a drunken monkey? Especially if the simian in question is getting looped on an anis-flavored liqueur. I mean, if it was banana-infused, well then that would be understandable. He certainly seems to enjoy it though. And the peculiarity of the image is precisely what the Evangelisti firm was banking on to get their dessert tipple firmly lodged in the viewer's mind. A founder of the Museo dell'Automobile in Turin, Biscaretti was an industrial designer who produced only a handful of posters, most of them for the automotive industry between 1920 and 1930."
