1931 Harvard Yale Football Goal Post Albie Booth + News
This listing is for an amazing collection of Yale University memorabilia from the 1930s and '40s. The jewel of the collection is a piece of the goal post from the famous 1931 Harvard vs. Yale football game when Albie Booth kicked the field gold to win the game against Harvard 3-0. The post is marked in pencil, "Albie Booth Kicked Over This Post Nov 21 1931 Yale 3 Havard 0" (they misspelled Harvard, and apparently tried to erase the first half of the inscription). The lot also includes over 50 issues of the Yale News from 1933 to 1942 as well as numerous programs, bulletins, tickets, and other materials. The stack of Yale News includes almost every issue from number 1 to number 184 of volume 58 as well as a few issues from volume 56 and 57 and volume 1 number 1 from 1942. There is also a panoramic photo taken by Pach Bros of the 1916 game against Harvard. It measures about 29 1/2" by 10 3/4" inches. Also included are several pieces of paper that look like football game 'box scores' where every drive was recorded by hand. They are very interesting pieces of football history. This listing has no reserve price so don't miss your chance to win!
Information on Albie Booth from Wikipedia:
"His last game was against Harvard, with both teams entering "The Game" undefeated for the first time since 1913. Neither team scored until Booth kicked a late-game drop kick field goal to win 3-0, finally prevailing in his third attempt to beat Harvard's varsity team and its star quarterback Barry Wood.
"Exhausted from the season, Booth was in a hospital with pleurisy while his teammates routed Princeton 51-14 in the final game, inspired in part by a telegram from Booth that was delivered to the Yale bench shortly before halftime."
