Antique 1863 Perrine's New Topographical Civil War Map
This listing is for a rare item from the Civil War era. The full title is "Perrine's New Topographical War Map of the Southern States with a Chronology of the Great Rebellion." The item is signed on the top of the cover with the name "Sergt. Chas. Dougherty." According to the book, History of Chester County, Pennsylvania with genealogical and biographical sketches Volume 2 by John Smith Futhey, Sergeant Charles Dougherty was mustered into service on May 31, 1861 and discharged on July 24, 1861. Another source says he was mustered on May 30, 1861 and discharged on a Surgeon's Certificate on December 18, 1861. This source indicates he was in the 12th Pennsylvania Infantry Reserves (41st Pennsylvania Infantry) Company A and was recruited at Philadelphia as part of "The Wayne Guards". Yet another source indicates he was sergeant of company C of the 69th Regiment Pennsylvania Volunteers and died on or around April 20th, 1864. The map is in very good condition overall with some light wear on the cover, some separation of the binding, and some foxing and light wear on the paper.
