Antique 1880s Hand Sewn Basket Quilt Given To 1st Daughter 85" x 84" +Provenance
This listing is for a beautiful antique quilt in a "baskets" pattern. According to the included provenance, it was hand pieced and quilted in the 1880s by Hattie Benson and Lorret Martin of Saxtons River, Vermont and given to Lilian M. Williams, their niece and the first daughter born to that family. She later became Lilian Doane, and was the great aunt of the seller. The quilt was evaluated in 1989 at The Vermont Quiltsearch, a statewide quilt documentation project directed by the The Vermont Quilt Festival and endorsed by The Vermont Statehood Bicentennial Commission. It was also shown at the Bondville Fair Quilt Show, presumably around the same time. The quilt is in very good condition with some discoloration which is mostly on the edges. There are no holes, tears or odors that we can find. It measures approximately 85" inches by 84" inches and has a piece of fabric stitched to the back in order to hang it up for display. This listing has no reserve price so don't miss your chance to win!
