This listing is for a vintage Super Tot Rod Chain Speed Drive pedal. According to our research, it was built in the early 1960s by Murray. The car would be a suitable candidate for a restoration project. It has scuffs, wear, and corrosion. Some of the outer bolts on the wheels have been replaced. One of the large rear wheels is different from the others and it has cracks in the rubber. The right side pedal is missing and the nut and bolt on the body behild the petal are missing. The car appears to work normally although the right wheel doesn't seem to spin as quickly as the left one. For these reasons, the car is selling as-is. Information from Speedwaymotors.com:
"Built for speed and fun in 1961" is the catchy phrase that can be attributed to the introduction of Murray's radically different styled Tot Rod. This new pedaler became a popular choice with its open cage, go cart design, and was better suited as a child's toy since it was made with a safe and sturdy tubular drop wedge frame design. A Super Tot Rod featured an enclosed chain driven pedaling system and a more substantial front end area, while the basic Tot Rod remained pedal driven. Both Tot Rod models were scarlet red and had adjustable bucket seats surrounded with a rubber padded roll bar. Simple white graphics gave a speed racer look to what would become one of Murray's most popular offerings of the 1960's. Special edition Tot Rod Racers called the silver and gold cup specials appeared during the early 1960's, and were known as the Fireball and Thunder Bolt Racers. These cars had wrap-around hoods, exhaust pipes, front grille and hubcaps and flamed racing style graphics. Later in production, Tot Rods featured chrome plastic exhaust pipes, hood scoops and all-terrain style plastic wheels. These cars were offered with many different graphics painted on the sides. The background colors accurately depict original paint color schemes from Murray."
