Civil War Union Soldier CDV Cabinet Card Photo + Discharge Certificate Letter NR
This listing is for an antique photo of a Civil War soldier along with a discharge certificate. The soldier's name was Samuel M. Harmon and he was born in Madison, New Hampshire in 1830. We believe the photo is either a CDV (carte de visite) or a cabinet card, but we admit we don't know for sure. The actual image has been trimmed a bit but measures approximately 5-3/4" at its widest by 8-1/8" at its longest (the photo is not perfectly rectangular). The seller's family has had this photo for many years, during which time it has been sitting under glass in a frame. We removed it from the frame to get more information about the condition, and to see if there was any writing on it. There does appear to be something "etched" into the right edge of the photo, presumably when it was taken, but we can't quite read it. The photo is mounted on backing that appears to have "31568 Boggs" written on it. The discharge certificate is still framed and will remain so unless the winning bidder requests that we remove it from the frame. We think it's interesting that the certificate is all filled out except for the date when Harmon would have been discharged. The photo and certificate have yellowing as shown, and the frames have scuffs and wear. This listing has no reserve price so don't miss your chance to win!
