Vtg Antique African Art Hand Carved Wood Panel Carving Wall Hanging Africa 59x24
This listing is for a wonderful vintage/antique Hand Carved African Wood Panel. Our client was living in Cameroon in the 1970s, and became friends with some of the monks at a monastery in Yaounde. When he left to return to Switzerland he made a donation to the monastery in exchange for this carved panel that he had expressed an interest in during his visits. It was already a vintage piece at that time. The carving shows a chieftain "holding court" at the top with musicians and dancers below. It measures 25" inches wide, 59" tall, and about 1.5" inches thick. It is carved out of ebony or some other dense hardwood and weighs about 35 pounds. He believes it may have been carved in Nigeria and made it’s way to Cameroon at one time. The carving is in very good overall condition with some minor scuffs and dings.
