Vtg 1920s 1930s B&J Serenader 6-String Acoustic Parlor Guitar W/ Case Regal Kay
This listing is for a vintage/antique B&J Serenader parlor guitar. Based on our research, these guitars were made by Harmony, Kay or Regal in the 1920s or 1930s. This one appears to be all original with the exception of the strings and one of the bridge pins. The inner label has some staining on the right side and appears to be peeling up a bit on the edges. The guitar has scuffs, scratches and wear including a few chips and dings. There are three parallel cracks extending behind the bridge, 2 cracks from the bridge to the soundhole, and 2 small cracks between the soundhole and the fretboard. There is some separation of the top on the end by one of the cracks. There are two small screw holes where the pickguard was mounted. One of the inner ladder braces is missing from the back. There is a slight upward bow to the neck. There is no strap button on the bottom. The case has a nice reptile/alligator/crocodile print and exhibits wear and tear from years of use. Please see the photos below to see everything that is included, and contact us with any questions before bidding. We have a low opening bid and no reserve price so don't miss your chance to win!
Approximate measurements: 37" long; 13" wide at the bottom; 3.75" deep at the bottom
Some information we found posted in 2014:
"B & J Music of New York opened its Toronto office in 1931 and still operates here in Canada. Recently the company was taken over by Kaman (Ovation) then by Fender. This venerated musical instrument wholesaler now operates out of Mississauga. The Serenader model was an economy model sold through department stores and music shops and was a common choice as a first guitar for the working class in the 1930s."
