This listing is for a rare vintage Farm Security Administration Photograph. It was taken by Dorothea Lange in 1936 while travelling through Blythe, California. The photo measures 15.5"x17" inches and was printed directly from the Library of Congress negative. It was purchased in the early 1960's from the Library of Congress. The photo is in very good to excellent condition with several light creases near the top edge that we tried to show as clearly as possible. Drought refugees from Oklahoma camping by the roadside. (Blythe, California.) They hope to work in the cotton fields. The official at the border (California-Arizona) inspection service said that on this day, August 17, 1936, twenty-three car loads and truck loads of migrant families out of the drought counties of Oklahoma and Arkansas had passed through that station entering California up to 3 o'clock in the afternoon.
