RARE Vtg Antique Goyard Steamer Trunk Leather + Brass w/Hotel + Steamship Labels
This listing is for a rare Antique E Goyard Steamer Trunk. The trunk has beautiful leather trim and brass hardware. It is marked 'E Goyard Honore Paris' in a number of places within the classic Goyard chevron pattern. The trunk belonged to our client's brother-in-law's mother's fiancee, who was in the US Army. According to the family story, it was sent back to her in NYC after he was killed overseas during WWI. Since they were never married the families drifted apart and we have no information other than the last name of the soldier (Dwight). The trunk has a number of paper labels attached to the top and sides. They include Hotel St. Antoine in Anvers (French for Antwerp in Belgium). Based on our research, this building was only used as a hotel until 1918. The other travel labels are from the Amstel Hotel in Amsterdam, the Hotel Continental in Paris, and Hudson River Steamers in upstate New York. There is a label on one end from The Manhattan Storage & Warehouse Co. that is dated 6/20/39. The underside of the lid is cushioned purple velvet, and it looks like there was an inner tray at one time. The trunk measures approximately 20.5" x 14" x 11" inches and is in good overall condition with moderate to heavy wear. The top is no longer attached, and the front latch is missing. It is stenciled 'Dwight' on the top and '19' on the front. Please see the detailed photos below and contact us with any questions before bidding.
