This listing is for a rare original Edward Curtis Photogravure printed on Japanese tissue. It is titled 'Quinault Female Type' and is a gorgeous portrait of a Native American woman. Based on our research, it is from Volume 9 (facing page 22) of 'The North American Indian'. Below the photo it reads, 'From Copyright Photograph 1912 by E.S. Curtis'. This print was purchased at at Vilunya Diskin's Folk Art Store in Boston in the 1960s. It is in good overall condition with a small scratch on her left cheek. The tissue is wrinkled along the lower left edge, and has a small tear in each of the two lower corners. The print itself measures 5" x 7.25" inches and the paper measures about 9.5" x 12.5" inches. The backing paper (Van Gelder Zonen) has some discoloration and edge tears that will be covered up when the photo gets framed. The Quinault are a group of Native American peoples from western Washington in the United States. They are a Southwestern Coast Salish people and are enrolled in the federally recognized Quinault Tribe of the Quinault Reservation.
