EO Goldbeck Signed '20s US Navy Airship Dirigible Panoramic Photo USS Shenandoah
This listing is for a rare EO Goldbeck Hand Signed Panoramic Photo. It was taken sometime in the 1920s, and shows the USS Shenandoah moored at one of it's launch sites. The Shenandoah was the first of four United States Navy rigid airships. It was constructed during 1922–23 at Lakehurst Naval Air Station, and first flew in September 1923. It developed the U.S. Navy's experience with rigid airships, and made the first crossing of North America by airship. On the 57th flight, Shenandoah was torn apart in a squall line over Ohio in September 1925. This photo was purchased in the 1980s at Goldbeck's studio in San Antonio, Texas, shortly before he passed away, and is hand signed in the lower right. The photo itself measures about 9" x 32" inches, and the wooden frame measures about 13" x 37". It is in excellent condition with some minor scuffs and dings on the frame. Please see the photos below and contact us with any questions. We have a very reasonable opening bid, so don't miss your chance to add this rare photo to your collection.
E. O. (Eugene Omar) Goldbeck (American, 1892-1986) was a commercial photographer who specialized in panoramic photography. Perhaps best known for his large Cirkut panoramas of military personnel and bases, Goldbeck also brought his creative eye and energetic drive to the smaller banquet panoramic format.
