Antique Civil War Tintype Photo 1st Lt Russell Pealer 161st Reg 16th Cavalry NR
This listing is for very rare Civil War tintype photograph 1st Lieutenant Robert Ralph Pealer. He served during the war in the 161st regiment 16th Cavalry out of Pennsyvalnia. Enlisting as a simple private in 1862, he was quickly and repeatedly promoted all the way up to 1st Lieutenant. He faught in many battles, including Chancellorville, Gettysburg, the Wilderness, Cold Harbor and at Petersburg. He was wounded at Hatcher's Run, but survived his rifle wound to the thigh, and moved into law after the war. He moved to Michigan and became both the Circuit Court Commissioner and Prosecuting Attorney of Three Rivers County. He joined the Legislature in in 1888 and was a part of passing the Soldiers' Relief Bill. He petitioned the governor in '98 at the start of the War with Spain to form and lead a cavalry unit, famously having been quoted; "You may command me for whatever service you may think I can best render. whenever and wherever my country has use for me I will serve".
The one of a kind tintype of this American hero from the Civil War measures about 4.25" tall, 3.25" wide and is made from tin.
