Original WWII US Army Captain Type-1 Navigator Leather Gusset Briefcase Bag NR
This listing is for an original World War II US Army Type-I leather gusset navigator briefcase. Assigned to US Army Captain Kenneth Salls, this heavy duty military bag measures about 12" tall, 18" wide and features two thick 1-1/2" wide leather straps that run the whole perimeter of the bag. Most of the leather pieces on this bag are about 1/4 cm or 1/2 cm thick. Through its gusset intereior design and multi-tiered locking mechanism on the front, this briefcase's thickness and depth are both adjustable. The original owner of this briefcase was US Captain Kenneth T Salls. Born in 1898 in Vermont, Salls joined the US army in 1918 at the tail end of World War I. He went on to serve in World War II as a US Army Captain, during which he was issued this specific briefcase. He served a long military career from there, eventually retiring in 1958, after 40 years of service as a US Army Major.
