Antique CT Ham 3 Bellbottom Conductors Presentation Railroad Lantern MC Morse VT
Antique CT Ham 3 Bellbottom Conductors Presentation Railroad Lantern MC Morse VT NR (No reserve price, this will sell to the highest bidder)
Excellent condition, one small dent on top of the chimney.
It came crome the estate of MC Morse, here in Vermont.
MC Morse was a Vermont States Attorney for Caledonia County. In 1904 he did investigate a railroad accident in St. Johnsbury, where it was found that the fault of the accident was from no act of neglect by the Boston & Maine Railroad, but an accidental trip and fall on snow and ice that resulted in the death of an employee.
It is not clear as to when he received this gift or for what reason.
It is a CT Ham no. 3 Railroad Conductors Lantern, made from brass and it is nickel plated.
The only marking on the bottom is the number 3. There is a extra piece of brass covering where the usual CT Ham mark is supposed to be. If it was a gift by the B&M RR after the accident, CT Ham may not have wanted his name on the bottom of the lantern.
The globe is the original globe, it is etched with the name of the Vermont States Attorney for Caledonia County, MC Morse.
16" inches tall to the top of the bail
10.5" inches to the top of the chimney
It has a Edward Miller Company, Meriden CT, burner.
I cleaned the glass globe, and left the original patina on the lantern, if someone wanted it may clean up very nice.
Please see the photos, this is the exact lantern you will receive when you win.
